How To Watch Big 12 Biggest Men’s Basketball Games For Week 16

Heartland College Sports – An Independent Big 12 Today Blog

The Big 12 men’ basketball season starts Week 16 of the season and there are some big matchups across the board that could determine NCAA Tournament dreams.

The Big 12 will have games on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. During the mid-week two teams will be off — Kansas and Oklahoma.

Here’s the complete schedule, how to watch each game and, if you’re so inclined, the three must-watch games of the week in league where frankly every game is a must-watch.

Iowa State at Houston

How To Watch: 8 p.m., Monday, ESPN

Before the middle of last week this game was scheduled for 6 p.m. on ESPNU. ESPN smartly switched it out with Texas-Kansas State into the 8 p.m. Big Monday slot. It should be one of the best games of the night. It could be one of the best games of the season.

Iowa State beat Houston in Ames in January, handing Houston its first loss of the season. The Cyclones and the Cougars are both undefeated at home and they’re one of three Big 12 teams with a winning record on the road (TCU is the other). That’s important here because the Cyclones are trying to steal one on the road and they’re capable.

Houston is absolutely dominant at home. Not only are the Cougars undefeated but they have beaten every team by double-digits. The Cougars have the No. 1 defense in the county per Ken Pom. Iowa State is No. 3.

The winner gets sole possession of first place in the Big 12. The Cougars have never won the regular-season crown, obviously. Iowa State hasn’t done it in more than 20 years.

That is the definition of a Big Monday game.

TCU at Texas Tech

How to Watch: 8 p.m., Tuesday, ESPN2

TCU has more road wins than any other Big 12 team. The Horned Frogs are 5-3 going into this one. The Horned Frogs snuck one out of Kansas State on Saturday, boosting their NCAA Tournament credentials. The Horned Frogs might need just a bit more help, even though they’re sitting on 18 overall wins.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders feel like an NCAA Tournament lock at this point. But a win here would be a good opportunity to get closer. The Red Raiders also have 18 overall wins and reaching 20 wins by Kansas City’s Big 12 Tournament is a great sign that an NCAA Tournament berth is coming.

Oklahoma at Oklahoma State

How to Watch: 3 p.m., Saturday, Big 12 Now on ESPN+

This could well be the last Bedlam game for men’s basketball. It’s unclear if the series will continue after the Sooners migrate to the SEC. I, for one, would like to see the pair continue to play once a year. Maybe home-and-home and then a neutral site game, such as Oklahoma City or Tulsa?

Let’s get that done. This is too good a game to lose.
