The Big 12 women’s basketball season hits Week 14 with a full slate of games over five days this week as we enter the sixth full week of league action.
There are games on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday as the league’s 14 teams have passed the point that there are fewer league games ahead than behind.
Who isn’t playing? During the week four programs are off — Iowa State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and Texas. Houston and Kansas don’t play on the weekend.
Here’s the complete schedule, how to watch each game and, if you’re so inclined, the three must-watch games of the week (we’re cheating a big again this week with four games).
Texas Tech at West Virginia
How to Watch: 6 p.m., Tuesday, Big 12 Now on ESPN+
The only Big 12 women’s game on the docket that night, it’s worth tuning into see this version of “Press Virginia,” which boasts one of the highest turnovers rates in college basketball. There isn’t a team in the Big 12 that defends full court like the Mountaineers.
Meanwhile, Texas Tech is reaching the point in the season in which the Lady Raiders need wins like this on the road to build a viable resume for the NCAA Tournament. Coach Krista Gerlich is trying to get her alma mater back in the Dance. A win like this, a Quad 1 win on the road, would do wonders for Tech’s chances.
Baylor at BYU
How To Watch: 8 p.m., Wednesday, Big 12 Now on ESPN+
This is an interesting game because BYU has cultivated a significant home-court advantage and they have something the Bears don’t have in Lauren Gustin. She’s one of the top frontcourt players in the conference and her length and athleticism is hard to deal with.
Still, Baylor is the better team because of the balance that the Bears have throughout their lineup. They don’t have the overall height of BYU, but they can run all sorts of different sets, spread the floor and make life difficult for opposing defenses as their offense comes from several different sources.
With West Virginia waiting in the wings on Saturday, it’s a game the Bears really need to win if they want to claim one of the double-byes in the Big 12 Tournament.
Oklahoma at Iowa State
How to Watch: 6 p.m., Saturday, Big 12 Now on ESPN+
Entering this week the Sooners are in first place in the Big 12, something that few were certain would happen at this stage of the season. The Sooners have two games this week, with the Iowa State game being the more troublesome of the two.
The Cyclones match up well with the Sooners with their young stars Audi Crooks and Addy Brown. Emily Ryan has moved back into the starting lineup and is dishing out assists. The Cyclones have the height and the outside shooting to give the Sooners fits.
Oklahoma is the best it has been defensively in its three years under coach Jennie Baranczyk. Skylar Vann is playing like a First-Team All-Big 12 players and the progress of forward Sahara Williams has been something to watch. The Sooners will need it all to beat Iowa State on the road.
