Oklahoma Takes Down TCU While UCF Crushes Oklahoma State

Heartland College Sports – An Independent Big 12 Today Blog

Is there anything better than cold beer and baseball? It’s a combination that is hard to beat during the season. No matter what kind of beer you drink (or how many), let’s take a look at some of the best action on the Big 12 baseball diamond from Friday with a nice six pack.

Best Game

Houston at BYU

After a convincing win on Thursday night, BYU gave Houston all they could handle and then some on Friday. Collin Reuter got BYU on the board first and it wasn’t until the fifth inning when Houston was able to tie the game thanks to Jonathan French.

With the game tied at one, BYU’s bats got hot in the eighth inning as they put up three runs. Easton Jones got the party started with a solo shot and then Collin Reuter once again came up big.

Keoni Painter added another insurance run for BYU to make it a 4-1 ballgame going into the ninth inning. That’s where Houston started to make things interesting. Ace Resse knocked in a run and with two outs left in the ninth, Houston had the bases loaded with a chance to go ahead. However, Jonathan French struck out swinging as BYU held on for the 4-2 victory.

Best Win

Oklahoma at #12 TCU

I could have put UCF’s dominate win over Oklahoma State here but anytime you beat a top 15 team on the road you get my vote. TCU was up 3-2 going into the seventh inning before the Sooners went wild at the plate. Oklahoma ended up scoring four runs in that inning as Carter Frederick, John Spikerman, Bryce Madron, and Easton Carmichael all came up with clutch hits.

The Sooners were able to add another run in the eighth inning to make it a 7-3 and that is how the game ended. It was a massive win for Oklahoma as they now sit at the top of the Big 12 standings.

Worst Loss

Oklahoma State

The Cowboys got absolutely demolished by UCF on Friday night in Orlando. The Knights had 14 hits in the game and scored 13 runs. Oklahoma State had no answer for UCF’s offense, and it was really never that close. The good news is that I got to see a rocket take off during the game which is something I have never in my life seen at a baseball game before. I am happy to have UCF in this conference for moments like this.

Friday MVP

UCF 1B Lex Boedicker

Lex had a monster game against Oklahoma State on Friday night. He kicked things off by going deep in the fourth inning and then added two more to his total in the fifth.

Boedicker would also bring in another run in the eighth as he finished the evening with a whopping five RBIs.

Pitcher of the Day

Texas Tech RHP Kyle Robinson

There were several great pitching performances on Friday, but I decided to go with Texas Tech pitcher Kyle Robinson. He went seven full innings and didn’t allow a single run as he gave up just three hits on the night. During his time on the mound, Kyle struck out eight batters to help his team beat Baylor.

Best Home Run

West Virginia CF Skylar King

Skylar’s three-run bomb in the seventh inning put the Mountaineers ahead and was a key moment in West Virginia’s win over Ohio State.
