TCU Takes Down Oklahoma State While Baylor Upsets Texas

Heartland College Sports – An Independent Big 12 Today Blog

Is there anything better than cold beer and baseball? It’s a combination that is hard to beat during the season. No matter what kind of beer you drink (or how many), let’s take a look at some of the best action on the Big 12 baseball diamond from Friday with a nice six pack.

Best Game

BYU at Texas Tech

While the game may have started off a little slow, it sure did pick up some stream towards the end there. Going into the fourth inning the game was tied at one before Dylan Maxcey came up with a key hit to give Texas Tech the lead.

Cade McGee would bring in another run in the fifth as the Red Raiders held a 3-1 going into the final inning. But there is where things started to get wild. BYU’s Bryker Hurdsman hit a two-run blast to tie the game at three in the top of the ninth inning.

Luckily for Texas Tech, Landon Stripling was the big hero with his walk off single to win the game. This was a big game for the Red Raiders after dropping game one on Thursday. Now there will be a rubber match on Saturday to determine the series winner.

Best Win

Baylor Over Texas

Make no mistake about it, this is a huge series for both Texas and Baylor. Texas is coming off a rough series loss to Washington last weekend and Baylor is fresh off a big series win over Texas Tech. This series is very important and the fact that Baylor was able to get the job done in extras on the road is very impressive. It was a great opening win for the Bears, and we will see if they can win one out of the next two to take the series.

Worst Loss

The Bearcats are the only Big 12 team this weekend to not play a conference series as they are taking on Saint Louis. The problem for them on Friday was the pitching. They gave up 14 runs in the first four innings and allowed 17 total hits. Their offense was able to get them back in the game, but it wasn’t quite enough to undo all the early damage.

Friday MVP

Kansas SS Collier Cranford

Collier had a monster day at the plate on Friday night. He started things off by knocking in a run in the first inning before bringing two more in just two innings later. But he saved his best for last as he hit a grand slam in the seventh inning and completed the cycle.

Pitcher of the Day

TCU LHP Peyton Tolle

There were several great pitching performances on Friday, but none were better than Peyton Tolle. He pitched a full game (nine innings) and didn’t allow a single run against Oklahoma State. During his time on the mound, he managed to strike out a whopping 15 batters.

Best Home Run

Kansas SS Collier Cranford

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a sucker for grand slams.
